Man escapes Rowville bungalow blaze

10th December 2012

A ROWVILLE man was lucky to make it out of his burning bungalow alive this morning.

The man woke up to find his home ablaze and tried to put the fire out before CFA trucks from Rowville, Scoresby and Dandenong arrived about 3.30am.

Rowville CFA senior firefighter Peter Sorrell said the man made it out of the bungalow with smoke inhalation and minor burns and was taken by ambulance to Dandenong Hospital.

Mr Sorrell said the fire destroyed the bungalow.

The blaze took almost an hour to control and CFA crews stayed on the scene for a few hours to clean up and make sure the area was safe.

Mr Sorrell said firefighters took precautions after it was suspected the bungalow could have contained asbestos sheeting.

"It was a good outcome and lucky that the man got out in time," Mr Sorrell said.

Fire investigators were looking into the cause, which was not believed to be suspicious.
